Nicola Juniper from NJC-Biemme won the second Women’s Team Series race of the season with a fast sprint at the end of a “what might have been” event.

With very cold weather and a strong wind this long-established race got off to a good start but at the end of the second lap a crash on Vinegar Hill split the bunch.

As the lead bunch approached what would be the finish line Fusion RT Velo Performance team member Claire Steels broke away in an impressive attack, a few riders tried to go with her but she was so strong she was soon on her own.

With her team members riding at the front Claire increased her lead, as she went past the bell lap her lead was 2 minutes 28 seconds and going strongly for the win.

However, with just half a lap remaining suffering from the extreme cold and her huge effort brought on a migraine so she slowed until caught by the bunch eventually finishing in 26th place, the race jury decided to award a special prize for her efforts.

We are pleased to report Claire fully recovered from her migraine attack.  Jenny Holden managed to get in the mix with 4th, a solid result.  As always, loads learned - onwards now towards the National Series starting in May!
