What is the first memory you have of riding a bike?
I did my first ever time trial around a local closed circuit called Fowlmead Country Park, I was really pleased that I’d done 10 miles in just under 30 minutes, and then my partner Craig pointed out that I had done the entire race in the little ring, he was laughing and I was clearly still clueless about bikes!
How did you get involved in cycling?
Craig was cycling when we first met, he suggested I try it and the rest is history, he only has himself to blame for now ferrying me around the country and buying me lovely new bicycle stuff!
What was your first race and how did it go?
That embarrassing time trial!
Why do you race?
I race because I love to push my limits and I enjoy being part of a team, but mainly because I love the feeling of leaving everything on the road as well as knowing I have given 110% and seeing what I can achieve. I am also partial to a bit of chocolate, so the hours on the bike allow me to have a treat without feeling too guilty!
Where is your favourite place to ride?
It’s got to be Spain, the Mountains out from Calpe region, often I will come across pro teams or local ladies who I race with. I try to go at least twice a year for the mountains!
What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?
Winning the 2017 Tour of Sussex – I worked really hard in the run up to this race following a heavy season of racing. I really focused my attention and nailed my nutrition. It all paid off as I felt the strongest I had been all year and this reflected in my results.
Do you have any pre-race routines or lucky charms?
I will always eat the same breakfast as I don’t want to risk any changes! I warm up on the rollers with specific music and I will get in the zone by putting my sunnies on!
What is your ambition for 2019?
To retain my RTTC National Title. I would like to target some of the National Road Series races and also the British National Championships.
What is the race you would most love to compete in and why?
I would love to get to the World TT champs but more close to home would be the Tour of Yorkshire and the Women’s Tour of Britain.
What is your favourite music to listen to?
I’m a ‘pop tart’ according to my partner, anything in the charts or anything I can sing along to in my car!
What do you like to do when you have time at home that is not cycling?
I love watching The Big Bang Theory wrapped up in my fluffy blanket. Although I have a horse so a great wind down time is riding my horse through the apple orchards and having a gallop along the beach.
