Fusion RT Fierlan win podium places

Fiona wins her second race at the Portuguese National Series

Jenny Holden wins the Bristol South RC Women's Race at Priddy.

Fusion RT Fierlan team members were out in three races over the weekend with two members winning podium places.

Jenny Holden raced in the Bristol South RC Women’s Race at Priddy in the Mendips. A fairly flat but open course with a strong wind down two legs of the course. Ford Ecoboost were out in force and it was clear from the start that they were out to control the race to bring it to a sprint finish and that was the conclusion. There were attempts by Jenny and others to get away but it was all together as the bunch came into the long finishing straight and it was Ford Ecoboost’s Adele Martin who just took the sprint from Jenny Holden.

In Kent, the South East Road Race League’s Cranbrook Women’s Race saw Maryka Sennema, Tina Hartwright and Rosie Letherbridge race against 30 riders on a course that, despite not having any real hills, was still challenging due to the very rolling nature, a strong headwind and a chipped road surface made it hard work at times. With numerous attacks throughout the course it came down to eight riders in the lead peleton including Maryka and Rosie, with a 3 minute lead over the bunch.  With just over a lap to go, Ruth Summerford of VeloPace RT attacked with the net effect of losing Rosie and two other riders, resulting in the lead peleton down to five.  Maryka gambled on going a bit early for the finish but lost, coming 5th and coming in about a minute behind at 6th.

Fiona Hunter Johnston won her second race of the Portuguese National Series which, with her fantastic win in race one, gives her a clear lead in the overall classification.  Well done Fiona!

The team can be seen racing this coming weekend in the Twickenham CC Dave Peck Memorial Ladies Race, Round 2 of the Women's Team Series at Virginia Water, Surrey.
